The AACT Nominating Committee has presented the following slate of candidates for elective positions with terms beginning in June 2018.

Sharon Burum
Duncan, Oklahoma (Region VI)

Sharon BurumSharon is a performing arts consultant from Duncan, Oklahoma.  She taught Spanish and drama in public schools for 28 years and is the founding director of Teen Theatre. Active with Duncan Little Theatre and the Oklahoma Community Theatre Association for over 25 years, she has directed more than 60 productions and chaired a number of state and Region VI festivals. In addition, Sharon has served on the Chisholm Trail Arts Council board, the Simmons Center Theater board, and Centennial Art Walk Committee, and is active in United Way, AAUW, Chamber of Commerce Leadership, and First Christian Church. In 2010, Sharon received an Oklahoman Governor’s Arts Award. Her degrees are from Texas Tech University, BS in Theatre Arts, and Cameron University, M.Ed.  She also studied at the Oklahoma Arts Institute with Ed Sherrin and Michael Toledo. She is currently on staff at Hodgson’s Studio of Music & Drama, and enjoys oil painting, traveling and playing with her watchdog, Rolex.

David Deratzian
Skippack, Pennsylvania (Region II)

David DeratzianInvolvement in theatre has been passed to David through two generations.  David and his father founded a business making theatrical props and producing variety shows, and David performed widely throughout the eastern part of New York, beginning at age nine.  Eventually, he obtained a degree in Theatre from the State University of New York, and for many years worked as a free-lance scenic, lighting and props designer in regional and educational theatre.  David also attended Temple University School of Law in Philadelphia, and is a member of a regional Labor and Employment Law firm headquartered in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.   He devotes his time to stage and musical direction in the Philadelphia area, both as a freelance professional, and with other community and regional companies.  He is the outgoing two-term President of Playcrafters of Skippack, and is the Solicitor for ActorsNET of Bucks County.  David has also founded his own production company, 1880 Theatricals, and has performed extensively as a theatre musician in New York City and in the Philadelphia area.

Marc Edson
Chico, California (Region VIII)

Marc EdsonMarc founded Chico Theater Company Inc. in the fall of 2003 and has been at it's helm ever since as Executive Director, Artistic Director and Managing Director. Along with a very supportive Board of Directors and a multitude of dedicated volunteers, the theater company presents over 100 performances of musicals and comedies annually, with an average attendance of over 13,000 appreciative theater-goers. In the summer of 2015, Marc negotiated the purchase for its new location in Chico.  Previous to his work at CTC (and overlapping the early years), Marc served as sales manager for two different radio stations groups in Chico. He has also held careers as a regional manager in seven states for a convenience store chain, and also worked for seven years as a casting director in Hollywood, where he cast background performers in shows such as The Love Boat, Falcon Crest, Highway to Heaven and the movie Ghostbusters, to name just a few.

Michael Fox
North Salt Lake, Utah (Region VII)

Michael FoxMichael began his theatre career at StageStop and at Bear River High in northern Utah. He attended Southern Utah University (home of the Tony-award winning Utah Shakespeare Festival) on a performance scholarship, but earned his BS in Business Finance from University of Phoenix. He has used his talents as an accompanist, choreographer, director, singing dancer (totally different from dancing singer…right!?), light board operator, sound engineer and stage manager at a myriad of venues. He uses these experiences, and his degree, as Director of Operations for Hale Centre Theatre in Salt Lake going on thirteen years. He has served as a missionary and lay clergy for his church, as President of Intermountain Ticketing Professionals (Utah branch of INTIX) and proudly serves as a board-member-at-large for AACT. He was named one of thirty Professionals of the Year by Musical America in 2014. He has a beautiful wife of nearly 19 years that cares for him and their puppy, Bear. He is a major foodie, loves to sit at the piano and sing with his wife, and loves any form of great dialog.

Bob Frame
Skaneateles, New York (Region II)

Bob FrameBob graduated from SUNY Oswego in 1977 with a BA in Technical Theatre.  He is now Director of Theatre Operations at Cayuga Community College in Auburn, New York, as well as a free-lance lighting designer, director and actor. During his 40+ year career he has won numerous awards for his work in theatre. He has served on the Board of Trustees for the Theatre Association of New York State since 1997, including a term as President. He has also served on the boards of the Auburn Players Community Theatre, Skaneateles Summer Theatre, Pointes of Faith Dancers, and Auburn Public Theatre. Bob is a trained TANYS roving adjudicator as well as being one of two technical adjudicators, and has also adjudicated state festivals in Pennsylvania and Maryland. He has served as Technical Director for the TANYS Festival for years and was Technical Liaison for both AACTFest 2011 and 2017. His work on the AACTFest 2017 Design Competition and Exhibition featured entries from over 50 designers across the country. Bob lives in Skaneateles, NewYork with his wife (a stage manager). 

Rich Gannon
Naperville, Illinois (Region III)

Rich GannonRich holds a BA in English from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, and pursued graduate studies in theatre at Northern Illinois University before earning an MBA in Operations Management from the University of Minnesota.  He has held key management positions in the exhibit design and services industry, working for firms in both Illinois and Minnesota. Rich has been a member of Grove Players in Downers Grove for 43 years, and has held nearly every board position for that group at one time or another.   He was a co-founder of the Downers Grove Arts Council and was Grove Players’ liaison with the West Suburban Theatre Connection, a marketing cooperative that served for-profit and nonprofit theatres.  He has co-chaired both state and regional festivals and was site coordinator for the Design Competition during AACTFest 2017.  Rich currently serves on AACT’s Education Committee and Membership Engagement Team.  He and his wife reside in Naperville.

Steven Heron
Titusville, Florida (Region IV)

Steven HeronSteven is currently the General Manager and Artistic Director for the Titusville Playhouse in Titusville, Florida.  Under his leadership, the theatre has seen tremendous success and growth since 2011, increasing its annual operating budget of less than $120,000 to over $1.1 million in five short years.  Steven attended Auburn University, where he studied Music Education.  A Member of Actors Equity, and living as a working actor for 14 years in New York City, he transitioned to work as Artistic Director for the Cabaret Dinner Theatre, and later worked as Creative Director for PGT Entertainment, both for-profit theatres.  Steven currently serves on the Adjudication Panel for Professional Theatres for the State of Florida, the Brevard County Tourism Cultural Committee, and the Titusville Area Visitors Committee, and loves to share his love of theatre with everyone.  Steven lives with his partner of 17 years, and their babies, Dotty and Lucky.

Lucinda Lawrence
Champaign, Illinois (Region III)

Lucinda LawrenceLucinda has worked with several theatre groups in East Central Illinois (music directing, gofer-ing, grant writing, cleaning toilets, and more), and continues to volunteer with AACT committees. She brings her workshops to state, regional, and national theatre festivals, and she led the 2017 resurrection/update of the AACT Regional Representative Handbook resource. She also served as AACT Region III Representative for the 2015-2017 term. She now writes musical theatre, having composed also for the concert stage and modern dance productions, some with television documentaries. She has appeared as soloist on major concert stages and she worked at the University of Illinois, first as Music Director for Dance, eventually retiring from the School of Music. She now gives time and energy to her passion for “community” through community theatre, advocating at state and national levels, especially for underserved rural populations. Among Lucinda’s favorite programs of AACT is the NewPlayFest.

Jason Magnuson
Casper, Wyoming (Region VII)

Jason MagnusonJason studied theatre performance and technical theatre at Wyoming’s Casper College, and went on to work with professional theater companies around the world.  He currently sits on the Board of Directors at Stage III Community Theater in Casper, one of the producing theaters of the AACT’s current NewPlayFest, and will be costarring in the world premiere of Eternity in 2018.  Although his heart is in the theater, his work is as an entrepreneur, and he is one of the owners of West Winds Publications and Prairie Winds Reclamation.  Jason is also founder and CEO of the Wyoming Vapor Company and Eximious LLC, a real estate holding corporation.  His background in business building, customer retention, and budgeting, coupled with knowledge of the theatre, is an invaluable asset to the Board of Stage III.

Carolyn McCloskey
McMinnville, Oregon (Region IX)

Carolyn McCloskeyCarolyn taught for 28 years in Germany and Japan for the Department of Defense Overseas Dependent Schools. It was in Germany that she became involved with the theater program provided for our troops, acting and participating in the annual One Act Competition.  When she retired to McMinnville, Oregon in 2001, she became actively involved with Gallery Theater as an actor, director, and board member.  Under her leadership, Gallery Theater hosted the first Oregon One Act Festival in 2003.  Since then she has been instrumental in organizing the Oregon Community Theatre Alliance, which continues to evolve.  She is the AACT State Contact for Oregon and has built a network of AACT friends through her leadership with the annual Oregon state conferences.  She would like to commit more time to AACT and OCTA in the oncoming years.  She and her husband spend a lot of time on the road, seeing friends and family and “staying young/old.” They recently spent two months in Germany, France, Russia, and Poland.

Judy Rozema
Kearney, Nebraska (Region V)

Judy RozemaJudy grew up in northern Arizona, and received her music degrees (BM, BME and MM) from Northern Arizona University. She has over 30 years of teaching experience in theatre and music in public schools and universities, as well as work experience in business and finance. She has directed over 100 productions, with the most recent being Cats, The Drowsy Chaperone, To Kill a Mockingbird, and 12 Angry Men. She is a past Vice-President of the Utah Music Educators Association, has served on the Programming Committee for Minden Opera House (NE), is a former member of the Kearney Area Arts Council, and is a member of Nebraskans for the Arts. She is the Executive Director of Kearney Community Theatre, where she oversees daily operations and all facets of productions, including experience in lighting and sound design. She was a recipient of the Outstanding Music/Theatre Educator of the Year in Davis County, Utah, and with her husband, was recipient of the Founders Award at Kearney Community Theatre. Judy lives in Kearney, Nebraska and enjoys travel, junk jaunts, and photography.
