See Broadway
shows
Registration for the convention includes tickets to two Broadway shows. AACT has secured 100 tickets for Mel Brooks' wildly funny
Young Frankenstein and has an option on 100 tickets for
Les Liaisons Dangereuses, if it
is extended past its limited run (currently set for April 11-June 29). Act now to reserve your tickets for these exciting shows! Additional show details will be sent to registrants in the spring. The convention schedule leaves time for you to add other shows on your own.
In the new Broadway musical version of Mel Brooks’ wildly funny
Young Frankenstein, Tony Award winner Shuler Hensley is the toe-tapping monster with Roger Bart (of
Desperate Housewives) taking on the role of Frankenstein. Megan Mullally
(Will & Grace) plays Frankenstein's fiancée. Les Liaisons Dangereuses opens in a limited run,
starring Emmy Award-winning actress Laura Linney. The Roundabout Theatre Company production
marks the play's return to Broadway for the first time since its 1987 Tony Award-nominated premiere.
Young Frankenstein and Les Liaisons Dangereuses tickets are limited--
first registered, first served!

Welcome to the City!
On hand to greet you as the convention begins will be theatre suppliers in our Exhibits Hall (Thursday afternoon only). Gather great information about things you need (or want). It's a great way to learn first hand about a product, even see a demonstration, and get a feel for a company and its staff.
Celebrate Stephen Schwartz!
Rub elbows and chat with one of Broadway's greats as we kick off the convention. Hear Mr. Schwartz tell of his experiences as the Broadway composer of shows such as
Godspell, Pippin, and Wicked. See him receive AACT's new Creative Contribution Citation for his outstanding contributions to theatre. AACT theatres are celebrating his work in 2008 and 2009 with Schwartz productions across the country as part of the
"Act Locally, AACT Nationally" program, with great benefits provided by Music Theatre International.
(Thanks to MTI for sponsorship of this celebration.)

Question Tony Award winners during the "Tony Times Three" panel. Already slated for this panel are Beth
Leavel, 2006 Tony winner for her performance as "Drowsy" in
The Drowsy Chaperone, and Gary Beach, who won the 2001 Tony for his portrayal of Roger DeBris in Mel Brooks'
The Producers, a role he recreated in the 2005 film version of the hit show. Mr. Beach has also been nominated for Tony Awards for his performance as Albin in the 2005 revival of
La Cage Aux Folles and his creation of the role of Luminaire on Broadway in Disney's
Beauty and the Beast. He currently stars as Thénardier ("Master of the House") in the revival of
Les Misérables. Another Tony Award actor or director will be added to make
this truly "Tony Times Three." |

Tour a Broadway
theatre and learn from the Roundabout Theatre Company
staff how a nonprofit organization successfully produces on Broadway. "Behind the Scenes of a Successful Theatre Company" will include a panel discussion and a tour of Roundabout's
American Airlines Theatre. This gem in the heart of the rejuvenated Times Square District was painstakingly redesigned and refurbished by a team of architects, designers, historic preservationists, and skilled artisans, with restored murals, theatre boxes, and ornamental plasterwork.
[The AACT Awards Party will take place over lunch in the fabulous Penthouse
Lobby of the American Airlines Theatre.]
Kick up your heels in the new "Showstopper!" workshop.
Here's the concept: We're out of town in rehearsal for a new Broadway musical. A joyous, new chorus number has to go into the show in two days! Participants will actually learn a song, stage it, and knock everybody's socks off with our fantastic showstopper! Fulfill your fantasy of being a Broadway Gypsy (at least for a day!) while picking up great tips from a working Broadway choreographer and a Broadway music director on how to work fast under pressure. Come to this workshop to have a ball and also get a taste of how the work gets done in New York City. (Thanks to Manhattan Tour & Travel for sponsoring "Showstopper!" and other great assistance with the convention.)

Meet royalty house reps face to face as they tell about upcoming releases and ways to negotiate rights and royalties. Visit the fabulous TDF Costume Collection. These--and
more--are all in the works for the AACT NYC 2008 Convention!
"Talk back" with cast & crew of a Broadway show following a performance.
Talk Backs at past AACT NYC conventions have delved into how actors use their bodies & puppetry to create the animals in The Lion King, the historical research done by cast members of Miss Saigon who were born after the Viet Nam war, and what life it like for company members of a Broadway show.
Wind down with friends in the Hospitality Suite. Drop by for a quick night cap or while away an hour or two discussing shows, developing friendships, even solving problems - your back home production problems or world issues. The AACT Hospitality Suite will be open each night after the shows close.
